Sorbitan trioleate is a light yellow viscous liquid at room temperature, almost insoluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, petroleum ether and toluene, and insoluble in water. It gradually saponifies under strong acid or strong base conditions; stable in weak acid or weak base. Sorbitan trioleate should be stored in an airtight container and stored in a cool and dry place.
Sorbitan trioleate is used as emulsifier, wetting agent, dispersant, stabilizer, defoamer, antistatic agent, thickener, antirust agent, etc.; widely used in food, medicine, cosmetics, textile printing and dyeing auxiliary, paint and petrochemical industries. Pharmaceutical sorbitan trioleate is an excellent non-ionic surfactant, which can be used as emulsifier, solubilizer, suspending agent, moisturizing agent, etc. It has a wide range of uses in the pharmaceutical industry. In the emulsion droplets prepared by sorbitan trioleate, 95% of the oil droplets have a particle size below 5μ. Some fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E are often formulated into oil injections. If you want to prepare an aqueous injection or an aqueous suspension injection, you must add a dispersant. For example, sorbitan trioleate, it has the effect of solubilizing the micelles of the active ingredient. The vitamin gel calcium injections in Jiangsu, Guangdong and Zhejiang contain 0.22% sorbitan trioleate and 0.88% of polysorbate 80. As for stabilizaiton, after 4000rPm for 15 minutes, there is no delamination. Sorbitan trioleate can increase the solubility and release of the drug in the ointment base, and reduce the viscosity. It is also use in tablet coating formulations to play a role in anti-moisture.
