Polyoxyethylene Sorbitan Fatty Acid Esters Produced by Huana

Polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters, hereinafter referred to as polysorbates are formed by condensation of residual hydroxyl groups in sorbitan esters and ethylene oxides. Due to transesterification of polyoxyethylene process, ester groups of sorbitan esters can be rearranged to the hydroxyl end of oxyethylene groups. Polysorbates have various functions, including but not limited to water-in-oil(O/W) type emulsifiers, solubilizers, diffusants, stabilizers, antistatic agents, wetting agents and detergents. Polysorbates have HLB values range from 9 to 16.


Polysorbates produced by Huana have a great variety of specifications. Their emulsification properties are compatible with other types of surfactants. With our mature manufacture technology, we have researched and developed nine polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters products, which are polysorbate 20/21/40/60/61/65/80/81/85.


Polysorbate 20 is soluble in water, methanol, ethyl acetate and toluene(methylbenzene), and insoluble in mineral oil and vegetable oil. It can be used as solubilizers, penetrants and dispersants in food, medicine and daily chemical products. Also, polysorbate 20 can be used as softeners, finishing agents, lubricants and antistatic agents in textile industry for all kinds of fabrics. Furthermore, it can be used as lubricants for rubber latex and polyfoam stabilizers etc.


Polysorbate 21 is soluble in methanol, ethanol and isopropanol; and can be dispersed in water.  However, it is insoluble in vegetable oil and mineral oil. It can be dispersed in water. It can be used as emulsifiers in cosmetics while as emulsifiers and wetting agent in coating and asphalt etc.


Polysorbate 40 is soluble in warm water, methanol, ethyl acetate, and insoluble in mineral water and vegetable oil. It can be used as emulsifiers and dispersants in food, medicines and daily chemical products.


Polysorbate 60 is soluble in warm water, methanol and ethyl acetate, and insoluble in mineral and vegetable water. It can be used as emulsifiers in cake, protein beverage and ice cream etc., and as foam agents in alcoholic beverage, and as dispersants in refine sugar.


Polysorbate 61 is soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, and slightly soluble in mineral oil and vegetable oil. It can be dispersed in warm water. It can be used as emulsifiers in cosmetics and industrial engineering.


Polysorbate 65 is soluble in ethanol and ethyl acetate, and slightly soluble in mineral oil and vegetable oil. It can be dispersed in warm water. It can be used as emulsifiers in cosmetics and industrial engineering.


Polysorbate 80 is soluble in warm water, methanol, ethyl acetate, and very slightly dissolvable in mineral oil. It can be used as stabilizers, solubilizers and wetting agents in food, medicines and daily chemical products. Polysorbate 80 can be used as emulsifiers in culture medium to reduce surface tension and stimulate cell growth. It can be used as stabilizers and foaming aids in the production of polyurethane foam plastics, and as antistatic agents in synthetic fiber, and as wetting agents and dispersants in photosensitive materials and films. It also can be used as oilfield emulsifiers, paraffin inhibitors, heavy oil wetting resistance reducing agents, immediate vicinity of wellbore treatment agents.


Polysorbate 81 is soluble in ethanol and ethyl acetate, and slightly soluble in mineral oil and vegetable oil. It can be dispersed in water. It can be used as emulsifiers in cosmetics and industrial engineering.


Polysorbate 85 is soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetone and most mineral oil and vegetable oil. It can be dispersed in water. It can be used as emulsifiers, paraffin inhibitors, heavy oil wetting resistance reducing agents.


Polysorbates are made from sorbitan esters and ethylene oxide. There are seven types of sorbitan esters in Huana’s sorbitan esters product line. They are sorbitan monolaurate, sorbitan monopalmitate, sorbitan monostearate, sorbitan tristearate, sorbitan monooleate, sorbitan sesquioleate and sorbitan trioleate.
